cooking the books

Inspired by Deborah and her 2008 Taste and Tell Cookbook Project, I've resolved to make at least one recipe from each of my cookbooks by the end of 2009. I thought this would be relatively easy, until I realized I'd need to make at least two new recipes a week--yikes!

There'll be sweet recipes...

and savory recipes...

with nods to my English home...

and my Scandinavian heritage:

The recipe list can be accessed via a new link on the sidebar. I've decided to include recipes I blogged about in 2008 as a bit of a head start (is this cheating?) and I've starred those recipes I'll definitely be making again.

Thankfully G has agreed to be my partner in this project, and as he's an accountant, we're calling it Cooking the Books. But I hasten to point out G has never-ever 'cooked the books' on the job!

  2. What a wonderful idea! I suspect if I dragged out all my cookery books I'd be doing a recipe every other day!! Happy New Year to you both. I've missed your last few posts...love the puzzle below!

  3. What a fantastic idea Kristina - if I did this, I might be able to part with those cookbooks I have taking up shelf space, but that I never ever use.

Look forward to drooling over your creations.

  5. This is a great idea for a New Year's resolution/goal! So many of my cookbooks sit on the shelf just collecting dust. Although, now that I've seen that "Easy British Cooking" book on your site all I want to do is order it and add to my own out of control cookbook collection.

    Best of luck!

  6. The cover of Easy British Cooking reminded me of our Christmas dinner this year. All Taylor was longing for when home from school was Yorkies. We told her they are eaten with a roast beef dinner. She was very sad. R made Taylor some Yorkies to go with her turkey and all was well. I'm looking forward to reading about your 'Cooking the Books' adventures!

  8. What a fabulous idea! Hmmmm, wonder if I should try it - last year's resolution was to try a new recipe each week so this shouldn't be too much of a step up ...

  11. this was my resolution last year, and I'm sad to say I failed hopelessly but I did make some nice new things, and I'm hoping to try again this year.
