c is for crockery

C is for Collins. C is for Christmas. And C is for Crockery, as spelled out in my much-longed-for present from G: Emily Sutton's latest alphabet print!

And while my present from G was virtual crockery, my present to G was actual crockery, thanks to a well-timed hint from The Coffee Lady:

This winter we've rediscovered our love of porridge, topping it with demerara sugar, maple sugar, maple syrup, or golden syrup, depending on what's to hand. But flipping through Home Cooking, I see Rachel Allen recommends whisky and cream--woo hoo! Though after a bowlful, I probably best keep away from the crockery...

  1. Whiskey in the porridge?! That would be quite an unusual breakfast!

  2. Oh, what a lovely little bowl! All our plain white china is getting chipped. I wonder whether an upgrade is due ...

  4. Whisky and cream on your porridge is the best breakfast you'll ever have, Kristina. Fondly remembered from an Edinburgh hotel I used to stay in for work. And I still managed to do some, in fact it sets you up for the whole day!

  6. LOVE your new print! The bowl is pretty darn adorable as well. I bet it fits nicely in a cupped hand, all the better to warm you.

Ginger Honey is sublime on porridge but is proving really difficult to find. Ginger syrup just isn't as nice...but in the meantime it will have to do.

  7. Ha! Yes, that sounds very sensible. Eat your whiskey-embellished porridge ONLY out of plastic bowls. Or maybe paper ones (sturdy).

Happy, happy new year to you both!

  10. Lovely print. Very interesting thoughts about whiskey in porridge, but I fear this may be gilding the lilly.
